Elizabeth
Hayes began her musical studies at the Watford School of
Music, having piano lessons from age 4 with Jean Merlow.
At 8 she was awarded a Hertfordshire County Exhibition,
and was already performing frequently in concerts and
competitions, including the Watford Music Festival. She
also studied cello with Malka Cossack, and joined the
WSM Youth Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra in 1978. A
member of the Clarendon Orchestra from 1981 -83, she
continued her piano studies with Eric Lewis and David
Oliver.
She trained with Phyllis
Sellick at the Royal College of Music form 1982 to 1987,
winning all the major piano prizes during her time
there, and launching a successful performing career. She
has appeared at major venues in the UK, including the
Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room on London's South
Bank, St. Johns Smith Square, Snape Maltings for the
Aldeburgh Festival and the Fairfield Halls. Success in
several international competitions has led to further
recital and concerto appearances, and her work has
received much critical acclaim.
Her work as a recitalist
for P&O Cruises has taken her worldwide since 1992,
and she is in great demand as an accompanist and chamber
musician. In January 2004 she performed with the
clarinettist and composer Chris Atkinson for the Park
Lane Group at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, and she has
broadcast on Classic FM.
Recordings include 'Play'
on Regent Records, and the recently released 'American
Classics' - with works by Gershwin, Bernstein, Barber
and Joplin - on the new Quartz label.
